A couple of months ago, for one of my classes. I had to write an essay on which character in Genesis I primarily identify with. While preparing for it, God reminded me of an incident that happened to me at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car location. Here’s the excerpt of that from my paper.
God showed me part of my purpose even though I was still living down in Norfolk. I was traveling and renting cars on the weekend to travel to Warsaw, VA. I when to the Enterprise on N Military Hwy in Norfolk. One of the employees at Enterprise recognized me when I walked through the door. He asked me, “Aren’t you so-and-so’s cousin?” I said Yes! He looked at me, rejoiced, and told everyone this was the person he had been referring to in his testimony! Now I’m looking like, “Who are you?” He told his coworkers that he was filled with the Holy Spirit back in 2008, and that a young man (me) at a church in Baltimore for a Youth Explosion helped him. He told them that he went up with one of his friends, “my cousin Dominic,” and their church
on their bus, and how the pastor was ready to leave the service to get back to the hotel so they could hit the road early in the morning. However, one of the brothers drove up in their car (Me). They were trying to get him to leave the service because he had ridden on the bus. The driver was ready to go, but the spirit wouldn’t let him; God wasn’t done with him yet. So I told them not to worry about him, that I would make sure he got back to the hotel, and that night he was filled with the Holy Spirit. He told me his coworkers were looking at him, saying, “Why did you have to go all the way up to Baltimore to get filled with the Holy Ghost?” They didn’t understand the concept or that he was telling the truth. But here I come, walking through the door in 2015, and he points at me. The lady who took my car order asked me, “Did that really happen?” I confirmed everything he said, and it opened up their eyes to see that God can bless you even if he has to take you to another state.
To be honest, I didn’t even think I was doing anything significant that night. I just never liked being rushed or having to take my time; that was the only reason I drove my car to Baltimore in the first place. God showed me how other people were blessed just because of my obedience, not that I’m special or extraordinary, just because we are willing to obey God and help his people prepare to receive. How many of his coworkers changed their minds and wanted to know God through his testimony? How many times have we thought about saying “no” to something, but through God, we were obedient? We probably can’t even tell how many lives we have touched just from that itself. All nations were blessed because Abrams decided to separate himself, leave his country and his family, and go with a barren woman who couldn’t produce anything in our eyes, and how the nations of the world today are blessed because of that.
