I should be used to weird things happening to me. I mean things that don’t happen to most people. I really should expect the unexpected, but it still surprises me. And it happens more than you think. I should tell some of my stories, and might post some like the one about The Holy Spirit and Enterprise Rental Car. But let me tell you the story about how my car got into a hit-and-run and how it was a blessing for someone else.
So I came down to the Norfolk area to visit my family. I’m staying over at my cousin’s house with my mom the whole weekend. So her son and his wife came over with their daughter. He had to drop off a rental car, and his wife was heading behind him to pick him up. So she comes back into the house maybe 2 minutes later and says she just got a phone call: there’s a man down the street who needs a jump, and if I would go help him. I didn’t want to, but I said Sure, no problem, I’ll go give him a jump. So I went to the house, and he was an older man. He explained that his wife had left the lights on, left with another car, and the battery had died. So we tried to jump the vehicle several times, and it wouldn’t jump. So he happened to look at the gas needle and realized that the car was out of gas, lol. Plus, the battery was dead. So the guy found a gas can, and he asked me to take him to the gas station. Which I said might as well, I’m in it for the long haul now.
Here’s the epic part of the story. I get to the gas station. There’s a black Nissan Altima at the tire pressure machine. The guy in the Altima starts to pull out. I blow my horn and let him know that I’m right beside him I can see them looking down (probably at their phone) and he sideswipes my car on the driver’s rear side door. But oh, did he stay? Of course not. He then puts the car in reverse, backs up, turns around, and speeds off. Let me remind you that the guy who needed a jump was in my vehicle. The older gentleman said Are you all right? I’m so sorry this happened! Did you get the license plate? I didn’t, because he sped off so fast, but I just remembered the car’s type. Yes! The man wanted me to do a high-speed chase, lol, and catch up to the car, lol. But a sense of peace was on me the whole time. I know my passenger must have looked at me and been like, “Why didn’t you snap, yell, cuss, or something?” What’s wrong with you? Now the enemy spoke to me one thing: “You know this wouldn’t have happened if you had just stayed at the house.” Now, let’s be honest, he wasn’t lying. But I shut that down in a second, and I reassured the older gentleman in my car that everything was okay. I didn’t even get upset about my car. When I got out of the car and looked at it, it was not really bad unless you were close to it. Now! Yes, there is a dent in the door. But I was satisfied with my spirit with it. Plus I have insurance full coverage.
After that incident, I knew something was up The guy got the gas, and we headed back to his house. He started telling me that he needed to get his car started because he needed to get his medicine for his heart. When we got back to his house, I filled his car with gas. It took a couple of times, but I finally got the car to start. He said Thank you, ” but I felt in my spirit to pray for him. I asked him if it was okay for me to pray for him. I said things happen for a reason, and the enemy was trying to stop something. I know God’s hand was in it. So I prayed for him. Then he started to tell me his testimony. He said he has a disease called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He told me to look it up. He explained to me that most people with this disease, when they die, undergo autopsies on them. They found out that the hearts are dry and really stiff. He was saying that he was one of the survivors of this disease, and a new medicine just came 2 years ago, and because of that and God, he was kept alive. He said the cost of the medicine is almost $3,000 per dose, but because he was one of the first trial patients when it came out, his is free. And he tried to tell everybody how good God is.
When I looked up his disease, another name for it is called “The hardening of the heart” or a “hard heart”. I only heard about this from a biblical point of view in the Bible, but to see that it’s actually a physical disease, you know, my spirit leaped. God did all of that to get my attention. Now, what if I had gone like a raging maniac? Trying to turn around on two wheels and pull off a whole car chase. Dodging in and out of traffic, trying to catch up with this car just to get a license plate. Or even getting upset with the guy in my car yelling and fussing at him, saying it’s your fault that my car is damaged, and it’s not my fault that your car is not starting? That could have made his heart condition even worse, and I would have missed out on the opportunity to do God’s will. We have to show love despite what is happening in our lives.
